Grounding

Grounding helps people to feel settled & calm, inducing a sense of emotional balance, physical health and well-being. It is your natural right and inclination to be grounded. The Force of Gravity is your ally. We are attracted to the earth and the earth is attracted to us. To deny this, is to deny life. When we deny life, we create dis-ease. Grounding is an opportunity to increase our awareness of the connection between mind, body and spirit. The practice of grounding offers you the ability to feel at home within yourself, regardless of the circumstances. Grounding anchors you in the present moment and connects you with your spiritual intelligence, your intution. You can meet life fully and as you do this, life meets you.

Energy follows thought, affirmation, intention and visualization. Play with different images and techniques. Your imagination is limitless with possibilities. Do what feels good to you. Your imagination feeds your intuition and intuition is the language of wisdom. As Einstein said, “imagination is more important than knowledge.” There are different kinds of grounding that work for different times. The goal is to feel centered in your body under any circumstances. Always start with breathing.

Grounding Activities: conscious breathing, being outside in nature, physical activities, massage and body work, mud baths, being with people who are grounded, a healthy diet, creative artistic expression, meditation, putting your bare feet on the earth, laughing, singing, playing music…you know what I am talking about!

Visualization – visual your spiritual intelligence as an energy or light that originates in the center of your head and expands to fill your entire body – moving down into the earth, anchoring your entire being. You can use any visual symbols that appeal to you in the moment. I have included some of my favorites below in the Grounding Exercise section.

Sound – sonic vibrations shift energy. Send a tone down from your body into the earth “OM”. Drum, chant, sing…imagine your throat opening and let any sounds come out that need to clear.

Affirmation – “I am grounded, connected to the earth in the present moment.” Any words that focus and affirm your grounding.

Movement – moving your body, physical activity, gardening, walking, aikido, dancing, yoga…any way that connects you to your body.

Creativity – painting, drawing, journaling, pottery, sewing…

Breathing – taking a breath brings you in to the present moment. When we stop breathing, we stop living. Breathing releases energy and brings you back to life.

GROUNDING EXERCISE

Skirt of Light – a beautiful skirt of light moves from your waist into the earth, effortlessly expanding out, forming a cone of light all the way down into the earth’s magma core. You can imagine any color that feels good to you streaming though your skirt of light. You can also and practice running different colors, vibrations, elements (water, wood, earth…), tones, and images through this skirt of light. Imagine yourself sitting easily in this skirt, calm and relaxed. Allow yourself to have an awareness of any energy that is NOT YOURS to drop easily out of your grounding channel to be neutralized and recycled into the earth. You may also want to bring some earth-energy up through your grounding channel to nourish and replenish yourself.

Grounding Channel

Anchors – drop golden anchor lines from the bottoms of your feet and from the first chakra at the base of your spine into the earth. For heavy-duty grounding, imagine each one of the cells in your body having a central point that drops an anchor line down into the earth.

Golden Signature – Imagine that at the bottom of your skirt of light a golden ring is burned into the hot magma. Sign your name in the center of this circle with

Other Images for Grounding - Mountain, waterfall, ship anchor, rainbow, colors, magnets, a giant redwood tree or any tree, for that matter work really well.

Just as you would ground any electrical system into the earth for safety, when you ground yourself you prevent lethal shocks to your own system. When you are grounded you will be able to release any additional energy you may have picked up in your personal space into the earth to be neutralized and recycled.
