FAQs

Can I do an Expressive Session if I am not an artist?
Process-based Art, Self-Expression & the understanding one’s unique Creative Process is for everyone. You don’t need to be an artist to make art. You just need a body. And believe it or not, every body is a body that wants to make, create, play, and move.

How can the Expressive Arts help me with my real problems?
If you are having a problem consider that thinking about it (which often includes worry, stress, blame, scarcity and judgment) might not be the only pathway to relief and often isn’t. Moving your body can literally move energy, free up space, and open you to possibility. When we engage in the arts, we tap into a much deeper level of knowing and access parts of ourselves that only speak in images, feelings, sensations and sounds. The language of the soul is deep and complex. Since the early days of Humans, people have danced, sung, painted, drawn, acted, cooked, dreamed in response to their problems - ritualize it or be doomed to live it.

Why Process-painting?
Painting is a physical act of the body. You are literally dipping a brush into color and moving it around the paper. Marks and images are the language of the soul and the unconscious. By painting, one is giving physical expression to the soul. As you being to paint, energy will start to move and become available to you – not only in the session – but in your daily life. In process-painting, nothing is off-limits. No images or colors are too dark or scary or sad, or ugly. In fact, we welcome everyone to the party – all parts of the self are considered sacred and wanted. , t

I feel nervous. I haven’t painted since Kindergarten.
We are all beginners here and that is the frame-of-mind that we will continue to cultivate – open, spacious, available, curious, non-judgmental. We don’t interpret our work. We simply pay attention to what we are feeling in the moment and focus on the present. Sometimes a whole painting is for one moment, one realization, one insight, one feeling. Process-painting, or any other process-based expressive work is about being where you are in that particular moment, feeling what you feel and learning to play again and be spontaneous. At some point, you knew how to paint. It’s about reconnecting to that bright energy of life being an adventure – and bringing it back into your life. As Joseph Campbell used to say,“If you find yourself falling – DIVE!”
