New Moon in Libra

This Saturday, October 17th, the New Moon enters Libra, the sign of balance & relationship.

The new moon is a time for feeling into the darkness, of contraction, of meditation, of honoring the potential of that tiny seed in your hand – filled with the promise of new life and possibility. Libra rules all forms of relating – from human relationships to your relationship with your highest-self, the animals & planets and the earth. Libra is ruled by Venus and says, “I love.” This new moon says, I love relating. Relating requires both giving & receiving, listening and sharing. Venus asks us, what are we ready to receive?

  • Invite someone you love on a Date (your kid, neighbor, grandparent)
  • Heal your relationships by LISTENING (without interuption)
  • Make new moon wishes relating to: harmony, partnership, healing codependency, teamwork & negotiating
  • Ease Suffering: Breathe deeply, lighten up, laugh at yourself, trust your pace, go outside

TIP + Ancestor Altar -  At this time of year, we honor the third and final harvest, the falling leaves, the growing darkness, the coming of winter and the cycle of death that will lead once again to rebirth. As we approach Samhain/Halloween, the veil between “worlds” becomes thin, as it does at Beltane/May Day. You may be experiencing a lot ofreview  (of relationships, patterns, habits, etc.) This is the time to connect to our ancestors who have passed. To ask for help and assistance, to honor them and acknowledge the contribution to our lives. Place images of your loved ones on a shelf or table in your home. This could include family members, friends, pets, personal heros, teachers, etc. Place objects, food, drink, candles, flowers that have meaning for you and/or them that represent your connection. Make it beautiful. In the time of Libra, we recognize our inter-dependence with all of life – past, present and future. You can use this ritual to help you work with energy of change, for the more we can learn to trust the cycle of endings and the process of letting go, the more we can truly embrace living… knowing we will be reborn. Spring always follows Winter.

Thelma -Ancestor Altar

I did this painting of my Grandmother Thelma shortly after her death. She was not a “sit on your lap” grandma nor did she ever bake us cookies. She was, however, a force of nature! She was creative, adventurous, surly, impatient, funny, athletic and strangely sentimental. She started painting in her 50s, grew amazing orchids and had a fear of driving through tunnels. She alwaysloved to be the center of attention. She danced with her walker at my sister’s wedding, loved to party with her friends, beat the crap out of you in cards, and traveled the world for free by signing up her friends for cruises. If you met her, you would remember her. She was unforgettable. I remember her at this time of year and celebrate her spirit, her lust for life and her willingness to treat life as an adventure. Go Thelma!
